The buying power of millennials has increased significantly, to the point where marketing strategies are being formed keeping them in mind. Millennials are now the third largest generation, therefore, making up a significant part of the labor force and the consumer demand.

With a new generation come new trends and millennial buyers have transformed the face of modern marketing strategies. Millennials are more methodic in their buying process, here are some things they do before making their purchases online:

Look for reviews

Online reviews are so important from a buyer’s perspective. It gives them an idea about the customer support and product quality of the business. An overwhelming amount of poor reviews deter them from placing an order with that business.

Reviews with pictures of the product delivered are often more reliable than the product’s listed on the website too.

Ask around

Before taking the plunge on a particular product, millennials will try to get the advice of their peers. Friends, family, colleagues, all of their feedback is valuable, especially if they have ordered from the particular business before. They are less likely to order from a business where a friend or relative has had a bad experience in the past.

Read the fine print

Buying products online is always a gamble when you’re doing it for the first time with a particular seller. It might be a success and the correct products are delivered on time, or the product might not match your expectations and you’re wondering when you’re going to get a refund. Before ordering products online, millennials are known to look into the policies of the buyer. If they have a “no returns” or “no refund,” it’s a red flag! It shows that a particular business is probably scamming individuals, or have a history of sending the wrong products.

Low prices aren’t their only motivation

While price has been an important factor with baby boomers, it’s not the most important factor for millennials. They understand the link between price and quality. Supremely low prices make leave them suspicious of the quality of the product. They would therefore prefer spending a little more for better quality and utility.

Research similar products

With loads of similar products on the market, millennials will always look for a number of similar products before making their decision. They compare the features, price, service, and reviews of each product to determine one that will work for them.

Research is a running theme with millennials. They know the difference in what is advertised and what is offered. They won’t fall for images advertised of a product as most sellers tend to reuse images off the internet.
